Waste Approval Chemist

REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor's degree in chemistry, environmental science or a related technical field with an emphasis in chemistry.
• Experience in hazardous waste management in one or more of the following functions: environmental compliance, laboratory, operations, and safety.
• Must have solid understanding of hazardous waste regulations and a basic understanding of DOT hazardous materials regulations.
• Must possess basic computer skills in Windows and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook). Experience in MMS preferred.
• Must have strong interpersonal, organizational, and communications skills. 

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Reviews waste profiles for completeness and technical accuracy.
• Resolves questions on profiles from internal reviewers.
• Assigns processing and special handling information for waste profiles.
• Assigns safety information to profiles including storage location, HMIS indices, PPE, and basic emergency response information.
• Provides technical support to customer service on acceptability questions.
• Calculates percentages of constituents.
• Determines acceptability of waste based on conditions of the WAP.
• Assist with bid process and rollout programs.
• Maintain teamwork and good relations with surrounding departments.
• Active part of team with customer service scheduling and billing.
• Supports DEA destruction program reviews and associated paperwork
