Tax Specialist

Primary Purpose: The Tax Specialist will focus primarily on State and Local sales/use taxes, and Personal Property Taxes. The Tax Specialist will work closely with various Companies under the Heritage Environmental team to ensure compliance with the various State and Local jurisdictions. The Tax Specialist will assist in State and Local sales/use tax audits and property tax audits to ensure accuracy and compliance.

Essential Functions and Requirements:

  • Ensures Health & Safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes, and acting in a safe manner at all times.
  • Completing and Filing of State and Local Sales/Use Tax Returns.
  • Completing and Filing of Property Tax Returns.
  • Assist tax department with tax related projects.
  • Assist on State and Local sales/use tax audits for various Companies.
  • Assist on Personal Property tax audits for various Companies.

Education: High school diploma or its equivalent required. Bachelor's degree in accounting/finance preferred.

Experience: Minimum 2 years office experience required. Minimum 1 year of successful tax related experience preferred.

Knowledge and Abilities: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Experience identifying and resolving issues independently. Demonstrates a solid sense of accountability and sound personal judgement. Demonstrated creative thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills. Maintains a high level of confidentiality. Ability to hold themselves and others accountable to high standards.

Requirements: Ability to learn multiple Financial and Billing Systems as well as Sales/Use tax software. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to research, document findings, and make business decisions.
