Tax Accountant

Primary Purpose: The Tax Accountant will focus primarily on State and Local sales and use taxes, Federal income taxes, and State income taxes. They will work closely with the companies under the Heritage Environmental team to ensure compliance with the various State and Local sales and use tax regulations. The tax accountant will oversee state and local sales and use tax audits and ensure accuracy and compliance.

Essential Functions and Requirements:

• Ensure Health & Safety is the number one priority by following policies and always performing in a safe manner.
• Oversee State and Local sales and use tax audits.
• Research State and Local sales and use tax laws and regulations.
• Create/Update sales and use tax guidelines for various companies and lines of business.
• Work closely with Management to ensure all billing systems are following compliance with State and Local laws and regulations.
• Assist tax department with tax related items, which could include Income/Franchise Tax, Personal Property Tax, Form 1099 filings.
• International sales/use and VAT taxes compliance.

Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting required.

Experience: Minimum 2 years of successful related tax experience required. CPA or working toward CPA certification preferred. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Explorer Internet software required. PeopleSoft, Great Plains Sage FAS and Thomson Reuters One Source experience a plus.

Knowledge and Abilities: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to research, document findings, and make business decisions. Experience identifying and resolving issues independently. Demonstrates a solid sense of accountability and sound personal judgement. Demonstrated creative thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills. Maintains a high level of confidentiality. Ability to hold themselves and others accountable to high standards.
