Strategic Projects Transportation Manager

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Ensures Health & Safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes, and acting in a safe manner at all times.

• Management of company strategic projects equipment including operations, placement, moving, loading, and unloading of units as needed.
• Maximize efficiency by tracking trip times and find solutions to improve efficiency where possible.
• Understanding of DOT and FRA regulations.
• Manage maintenance expenses and vendor relations for transportation units used for Strategic Projects. This would include oversight to equipment utilization and cost management.
• Monitors loading, reloading, and dispatching of special material not conforming to normal procedures.
• Offers clear, legible communications, either electronic, word of mouth, or by written documentations
• Ensure proper placarding and labeling of all transportation shipments.
• Supervises all backend offloading operations, tipper operations at landfills, plants or other disposal sites.
• Ability to operate backhoes, loaders, dozers, to safely assist in building backend offloading stations, container dig outs.
• Supervises all company heavy hauling and oversized load activities, including state overweight permitting applications.
• Understanding and knowledge of Class 8 truck maintenance acumen.
• Preparation of shipping documents and manifests for customer rail shipments.
• Ability to supervise direct reports, as well deal with all issue's that develop while these reports are away from home and terminal. Develops driver retention strategies. This includes recruiting, hiring, training, supervising, evaluating, discipline, and assigning the drivers as needed to maintain the needs for the business.
• Dispatching company drivers and assets for the timely delivery of shipments and ensure effective driver's trips are planned to ensure compliance with all regulations.
• Advocate and maintain a strong commitment to safety in the operating process. Responsible for accident reporting to corporate, compliance, and the insurance company as deemed necessary.
• Ability to drive for the company as needed or when situations arise. CDL to be maintained for these events.
• Is available 24 hours per day to manage driver issue's or equipment repair requests and or manage accident minimization efforts.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. CDL A Hazmat Endorsement strongly preferred.

Experience: Transportation and Driving experience required, past supervisory and/or dispatch skills needed, good computer skills, geography knowledge a plus, ability to multi-task with good organizational ability.

Knowledge and Abilities: Dispatch software skills, PC Miler, M/S Word and Excel, Good Phone and Communication skills, strong customer service needs, ability to travel and be gone for project needs as necessary.

A post offer drug screen will be required.
