Safety and Compliance Manager

Primary Purpose

Leads, develops and directs the health and safety programs of the company. Oversees conformance with federal, state and local regulations and company policies. Leads in the achievement of improved safety performance in conjunction with company management. Promotes a strong behavior-based safety culture throughout the organization using a proactive means in accordance with the company's core values and safety principles. Provides technical leadership and guidance to all departments when required regarding health and safety questions / issues.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Ensures Health & Safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes, and acting in a safe manner at all times.
• Establish and facilitate company-wide health and safety initiatives throughout the organization.
• Build behavior-based safety culture through communications, employee involvement & ownership, and action taken.
• Implement safety leadership training to improve overall execution.
• Monitor and measure company safety performance using key metrics with a focus on leading indicators.
• Develop and maintain company safety improvement plan process.
• Lead efforts to continuously improve training content and management.
• Develop policies and procedures to ensure compliance with standards and safety best practices.
• Implement and enhance incident management system.
• Audit locations to ensure conformance with health, safety, and environmental requirements and corporate policies.
• Identify corrective and preventive action needs through audits, incident investigations, and observation / near miss data trending.
• Provide corporate assistance in controlling losses from injuries, liabilities, and property losses.
• Coordinate efforts with occupational medical facilities to ensure treatment protocols and return to work programs are established and followed.
• Guide and support medical surveillance activities, annual physical programs, and industrial hygiene monitoring surveys.
• Represent the company with OSHA and other regulatory officials regarding inspections and investigations.

Education/Experience: High School Diploma or its equivalent required with a minimum of eight to ten years experience working in health and safety related programs, with strong abilities with chemical safety and properties. Four Year degree preferred in Health and Safety Management or similar; CSP preferred.

Knowledge and Abilities: Thorough knowledge and understanding of all federal, state, and local laws and regulations pertaining to occupational health and safety. Good organization skills. Ability to wear personal protective equipment, including respirator. Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate with internal and external customers. Strong decision making skills. Strong writing skills. Basic knowledge of environmental business. Strong working knowledge of computers. Basic knowledge of DOT and RCRA regulations and terms. Ability to maintain confidential business information. Must be willing and able to travel. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this job.
