QAQC Lab Supervisor

Primary Purpose

Oversees plant lab function to ensure that tests are performed accurately, according to regulations and in a timely fashion.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Ensures Health & Safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes, and acting in a safe manner at all times.
• Supervises laboratory staff to ensure accurate, compliant and productive operations of the department.
• Reviews analytical data to confirm accuracy of data and material acceptability for disposal.
• Manages the purchases and distribution of department operating supplies.
• Supervises the re-direction and testing of off-spec materials.
• Coordinates additional testing with third party laboratories and other service providers.
• Supports sales department by ensuring pre-acceptance testing is completed.
• Oversees adherence to laboratory budget to ensure profitability; performs functions to control costs.
• Provides technical expertise as needed for operations and sales teams.
• Prepares various reports as required.
• Interview, hire, train, provide direction, evaluate performance, recommend pay adjustments, and when necessary, discipline or discharge subordinates.
• Support, maintain and troubleshoot various laboratory instruments and equipment. (ICP, AA, GC)
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education: 4 year College degree required; Chemistry or related Science major preferred.

Experience: Three to five years of progressive experience in a related position is required.

Knowledge and Abilities: This is a safety sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function. Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate with and able to supervise employees. Thorough knowledge of laboratory procedures and protocols and industry-related regulations. Due to potential exposure to atmospheres/waste/materials this position requires that you may be clean shaven at times to don a respirator for your protection. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this job.
