Plant Quality Technician

Primary Purpose

The purpose of this role is to cross train within areas of the treatment plant and collaborate cross functionally between operations and departments to efficiently succeed in plant resolution needs for our waste and materials. Strive to achieve a standard of quality for the different areas of the treatment plant and collaborate cross functionally between operations and departments to efficiently succeed in improving plant functionality.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Ensures Health & Safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes, and acting in a safe manner at all times.
  • Completes logs and other paperwork necessary for tracking, processing and billing purposes. Paper, electronic and HES systems (MMS, Intelex, other)
  • Perform container labeling, sorting and sampling when needed.
  • Identify problems during load receiving/sampling, work with Off-Spec Coordinator to ensure all issues are noted and resolved on receiving floor when appropriate. Additionally document all issues including Compliance, Physical, and Chemical problems associated with the loads.
  • Maintain logs to help track production and other associated metrics.
  • Collaborates with other areas and departments to ensure a smooth flow of product through the production cycle
  • Understand Heritage coding and labeling systems to handle and manage containers.
  • Follow proper DOT guidelines related to shipping descriptions, container selection, manifesting, etc. for receiving and shipping waste.
  • Review work orders, Lab data and other documentation to determine proper handling of materials
  • Position handles hazardous materials and will require the ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) often, such as, but not limited to: Boots, Gloves, Suit, Eye and/or Ear Protection, and Respirator.
  • Introductory knowledge of high hazard materials management and assessment, cylinder handling, hazardous waste generation, management practices, shipping and related procedures.
  • Load, unload and sample solid and liquid waste safely in accordance with Company, federal, state and local regulations/rules.
  • To follow audit and troubleshooting guidelines and adhere to company policies and procedures.
  • Must be willing to work OT or other shifts as necessary

Education: Four year college degree required. Science major is preferred.

Experience: 40-HR HAZWOPER training preferred, but will be provided after hire if needed.

Knowledge and Abilities: This is a safety sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position. A strong attention to detail; focused on problem identification, documentation and resolution for both the materials received and the process management programs. Must have Basic Chemical Knowledge (pH, Acid, Base, Oxidizer) Ability to understand RCRA, DOT and OSHA regulations. Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate with internal and external contacts in both verbal and written communication methods. Basic computer skills. Requires the ability to communicate with work groups and individuals on waste management procedures. Requires the ability to apply principles and exercise judgment. Ability to be able to lift up to 60 pounds. Ability to wear PPE including respirator.

A post offer drug screen will be required.
