Oracle DBA

Primary Purpose: The Oracle DBA will be a key player in helping improve business performance in technology capabilities. The DPA role will be responsible for daily management, performance tuning, backup and recovery, disaster recovery, database security, capacity assessment, and system architecture. The role must keep up with the demands of a growing organization and work effectively in a team environment, but also with self-direction.


Essential Functions and Requirements:

  • Ensures Health & Safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes, and acting in a safe manner at all times.
  • Responsible for Oracle Database development and support.
  • Provide input into overall development/implementation plan and document database builds and changes, perform Oracle designs, table designs, and stored procedures work.
  • Ability to architect, design and configure large, complex databases with replication and high-availability on the most current Oracle versions.
  • Translate logical to physical design, develops comprehensive DB architecture, implementation and upgrade plans and assists in definition of database standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Lead data requirements, architecture review, and modeling sessions.
  • Primary contact for projects within the team, interfacing with project managers, application development staff and management.
  • Project based infrastructure and Execute database software installation (Oracle 12g+), database creations/configurations and loads.
  • Maintenance and support of Oracle server Mirroring, Log shipping, Clustering, and other methods of disaster recovery.
  • Responsible for data loading, security, capacity planning and backup and recovery.
  • Database performance fine tuning and optimizing poorly performing queries, stored procedures, etc.
  • Day-to-day 24x7 production operations support (incident break/fix, change, service requests, and vulnerability management).
  • Production patch/upgrade management.
  • Application support and troubleshooting (applications that rely upon Oracle database only; Peoplesoft HR and Peoplesoft Financials)
  • Customer support & communications.

Education: A bachelors degree in Information Technology or related field required. In Lieu of degree 9+ years of experience in database development and support in Oracle Server environments required.

Experience: Minimum 5+ years of experience in database development and support in Oracle Server environments required. Strong experience in Database Administration in Oracle Server. Experience in troubleshooting and resolving database integrity issues, performance issues, blocking and deadlocking issues, replication issues, log shipping issues, connectivity issues, security issues etc.

Requirements:

  • Experience in Performance Tuning, Query Optimization, using OEM other related monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
  • Ability to detect and troubleshoot Oracle Database Server related CPU, memory,I/O, disk space and other resource contention.
  • Strong knowledge of backups, restores, recovery models, database shrink operations, DBCC commands, Clustering, Database mirroring, and replication.
  • Expert experience in implementing operational automation.
  • Strong knowledge of how indexes, index management, integrity checks, configuration, patching. How statistics work, how indexes are stored, how they can be created and managed effectively.
  • Oracle Database development – ability to write and troubleshoot database queries and design (e.g. stored procs, functions, tables, views, triggers, indexes, constraints)
  • Solid acquaintance with windows server, security delegation, SPNs, storage components.
  • Documentation skills for processes and procedures (e.g. creating KBs, runbooks, topology, etc )
  • Oracle Database Operational support to tech users (e.g. developers)

Knowledge and Abilities: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Experience identifying and resolving issues independently. Demonstrates a solid sense of accountability and sound personal judgement. Demonstrated creative thinking and problem solving. Ability to manage projects and process improvement initiatives. Maintains a high level of confidentiality. Ability to gain alignment with different clients and represent a common point of view across multiple stakeholders. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this job.
