Operations Support Manager

Primary Purpose

To plan, organize and direct a wide range of training activities for a wide range of employees in transportation. Conduct and supervise training and develop programs for employees to improve & maintain safety standards, improve employee's skills, and build morale.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Ensures Health & Safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes, and acting in a safe manner at all times.
  • Support HT driver recruiting efforts by speaking directly with potential candidates and bean HT company representative as needed for corporate recruiting initiatives
  • Work with HT General Manager and Compliance Manager to onboard new Employees
  • Train and evaluate all prospective drivers. Evaluate or perform Road Test skills with prospective drivers.
  • Provide training to newly hired Drivers
  • Coordinate and evaluate the behind-the-wheel driver training program.
  • Conduct driving performance evaluations on drivers and delegated behind-the-wheel trainers and drivers and maintain driving performance records for new and existing drivers.
  • Maintain updated driver training manuals and SOP's.
  • Function specific training on the following fleet equipment: Van Trailers, Dump Trailers (Frameless and Frame), Roll Off equipment (straight truck, single and double hauler combo), Tankers (vac and non vac), Rail Intermodal Containers, and miscellaneous others.
  • Achieve Smith System Certified Trainer credential as required by corporate program
  • Assists with PeopleNet and Hours of Service training or re-training.
  • Assist with incident investigations, such as injuries, spills, property damage, etc.
  • Post-incident / corrective action behind-the-wheel re-training.
  • Receive and direct incoming telephone calls and direct to the correct contacts/departments.
  • Attend pertinent workshops and training sessions
  • Network with local instructor groups to exchange information and best practice.
  • Participate to manage safety (CSA) programs that reflect safety for employees.
  • Observe the condition of fleet assets to maintain a level of consistency with set up and maintenance to meet user safety and operational functions.
  • Review Driver Vehicle Inspection Report across the fleet and address any inspection or repair completion issues.
  • Perform all other duties assigned by the HT General Manager or President of HT.
  • 25%-50% travel requirement for driver training.
  • Haul loads on minimal basis when fleet is challenged with driver availability.

Education: High School Diploma or its equivalent required.

Experience: Experience and knowledge in Training Drivers in Hazardous Materials hauling and 5 years of CDL A driving experience is required. Working knowledge of 49 CFR/ OSHA regulations is required.

Knowledge and Abilities: Ability to maintain a Class A CDL with tanker and Hazardous Material endorsement. Ability to work as a Team and on a variety of tasks simultaneously with frequent interruption. Ability to interact with staff and others in an open, friendly, business-like manner. Ability to follow regulations pertaining to the safe operation of a Commercial Motor Vehicle. Communication skills, clerical skills, map skills, computer skills, drafting SOP, document training, spreadsheet, management systems. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.
