Onsite Transportation Manager

Primary Purpose

Onsite management of company equipment including operations, placement, moving, loading, and unloading of units as needed, as well as supervising direct reports.

Functions and Responsibilities

  • Ensures Health & Safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes, and acting in a safe manner at all times.
  • Track trip times and find solutions to improve efficiency; maximize efficiencies when possible.
  • Manage maintenance expenses for transportation units used for onsite operations, including equipment utilization and cost management.
  • Manage and maintain vendor relationships.
  • Monitor loading, reloading, and dispatching of special material not conforming to normal procedures.
  • Responsible for developing Driver retention strategies.  Includes hiring, training, supervising, evaluating, discipline, and assigning Drivers as needed to maintain business needs and expectations.
  • Dispatch company Drivers and assets for the timely delivery of shipments and ensure effective  trips are planned to ensure compliance with all regulations.
  • Advocate and maintain a strong commitment to safety in the operating process. Responsible for accident reporting to corporate, compliance, and the insurance company as deemed necessary.
  • As situations arise, required to perform CDL driving responsibilities.
  • Must be available 24 hours per day to management and minimizations efforts for items such as driver issues, equipment repair,  requests, or accidents.

Education: High School Diploma or its equivalent required.   

Experience: At least 3 years of transportation and Class A CDL driving experience required.  2 years supervisory and dispatch experience.

Certification(s): Class A CDL required.

Knowledge and Abilities:  This is a safety sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function. Must have proficient computer skills; dispatch software and Microsoft Office products.  Strong communication skills are necessary for internal and external customer service.  Must have knowledge and understanding of DOT and OSHA regulations, and Class 8 truck maintenance acumen. Must be have the ability to wear PPE.

A post offer drug screen will be required.
