Logistics Manager

Primary Purpose                                                             

Performs functions to sustain the growth and efficient operation of company transportation activities.                                                    

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Improves transportation efficiency by developing strategic initiatives to improve quality and lower outside spend through utilization of a management system. Be proactive in turning these thoughts into a documented business case, present the business case to your peers and management for approval, and provide ongoing project management. Drive alignments and prioritization of initiatives in a fast-paced environment with many interdependencies.                                                      
• Supports Supply Chain with Coordinated Purchasing efforts in selecting new suppliers (as needed) and negotiating favorable contract terms for existing and new suppliers. Works with waste allocation personnel to streamline logistics in efforts to internalize waste to preferred suppliers.                                                      
• Maintain cost and pricing schedules, databases, of various transporters to ensure Heritage uses the most cost-effective option. Can negotiate at a senior level with third party suppliers for transportation services.                                                    
• Establish transportation goals and objectives to ensure growth and customer satisfaction. Manage and monitor metrics for key performance indicators (KPI's). Conduct regular operations reviews and performance appraisals.                                                               
• Periodically generates weekly and monthly load reports, develops and maintain records of activities including, tracking shipments, customers inventory, and researching waste streams for specific clients, can generate transportation quotes, understands equipment utilization information as well as other operations.                                                         
• Responsible for updating and developing related transportation processes and procedures. Formulates and monitors effectiveness of operation policies governing company operations; recommends changes to ensure compliance with internal and external procedures and regulations.                                                            
• Works with key customers, suppliers, customer service reps, sales and field managers to ensure good quality and continued customer relations. Supports Heritage leadership team in daily operations management. Ability to effectively communicate and help bring resolution to improvement opportunities.                                                           
• Participate in Lean Six Sigma Excellence initiatives.                                                           
• Ability to travel as required in order to meet with customers, suppliers, other team members, and/or to meet other business necessities.

Education: Bachelor's degree in Business, Logistics, Operations, Science, Engineering or Supply Chain is required.                                                                                                                                                                                          

Experience: 5+ years of experience in transportation logistics, distribution or business leadership role with a focus on business development is required. Experience with transportation management systems, performance metrics, and process improvement required.                                                                                                                                                                                  

Knowledge and Abilities: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate effectively to a group. Demonstrated problem solving skills and analytical skills. Excellent customer service skills and interpersonal skills. An awareness and willingness to use operational excellence tools and techniques. Expert with Microsoft Office tools including Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel. Strong organizational and management skills, and dispatch software skills. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.
