Linux Administrator

Primary Purpose: The Linux Systems Administrator is assigned to a team that is responsible for Linux server and application support for the entire computing environment including system design/deployment, tier 3 system support, project management of deployment and rehab projects, and assigned systems monitoring and management.


Essential Functions and Requirements:

  • Ensures Health & Safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes, and acting in a safe manner at all times.
  • Provides support for existing Linux server and application deployments.
  • Supports Linux systems monitoring and management.
  • Designs and deploys new Linux server environments as required.
  • Manages operating system automation and patching requirements.
  • Follows and updates process documentation as needed.
  • Unix shell programming and performance tuning.
  • Supports ServiceDesk in resolving escalated tickets requiring specific technical knowledge. Provides tier 3 network and system troubleshooting and support, including after-hours support.
  • Some travel up to 20%
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education: Bachelor's degree in information technology or related field required.

Experience: 3-5 years of experience as a Linux systems administrator or similar role experience required. Hands-on experience with scripting languages like Bash, Perl, and Python. Effective, team-oriented interaction with DBA team, App-Dev teams, and Network team experience required. Experience supporting video conferencing equipment preferred.

Knowledge and Abilities: ITIL based service delivery for Incident Management, Change Management, Problem Management, Capacity Management, and Configuration Management skills preferred. Ability to hold themselves and others accountable to high standards. Ability to demonstrate a solid sense of accountability and sound personal judgment. Proven analytical and problem-solving skills with information systems. Courage to take initiative in unfamiliar or ambiguous circumstances. Ability to gain alignment with different clients and represent a common point of view across multiple stakeholders. Must be confident building business partnerships with various business stakeholders. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Exceptional customer service orientation experience required. Experience in identifying and resolving issues independently preferred. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this job.
