Lead Welder/Fabricator

Primary Purpose  

To provide lead supervision in the oversight of the activities of the weld shop and performs welding and fabrication of materials, equipment and supplies and perform general equipment maintenance as well as the responsibility for the health and safety of employees in the Fabrication building.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Ensures Health & Safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes, and acting in a safe manner at all times.
  • Oversees and delegates daily tasks assigned to welders/fabricators
  • Uses judgement in selecting the repair methods, equipment and materials used to accomplish assignments
  • Ability to order/negotiate with metal, paint, hardware, and decal suppliers
  • Establish work schedules for teams of metal fab workers
  • Establish shop hours
  • Participation in the Strategic Projects call
  • Ensures housekeeping is maintained throughout the facility
  • Basic MIG welding of steel and aluminum
  • Prepare, inspect, clean, diagnose and repair all welding related equipment and materials
  • Repair IM and roll off boxes, replace tarps, seals bows, etc.
  • Operate forklift equipment to perform all general equipment repair and installation
  • Perform assigned work in compliance with all safe work procedures, guidelines, practices, permits and air monitoring requirements.
  • Ensure safeguards for equipment and PPE while performing welding operations.
  • Repair products by dismantling, straightening, and reshaping
  • Potential to weld components in flat, vertical, downhill or overhead positions
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education: High school diploma or its equivalent required. Trade school certification or advanced degree from accredited institution in welding preferred.

Experience: Minimum 2 years' welding and fabricating experience required. At least 6 months supervisory experience required.

Knowledge and Abilities: This is a safety sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function. Must have the ability to operate maintenance tools and equipment. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Microsoft Office skills a plus. Ability to negotiate with suppliers. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this job.

A post offer drug screen will be required.
