Primary Purpose

Responsible for waste stream approvals into Heritage facilities. Evaluates waste stream approvals for acceptability based on customer's needs, Heritage policies, facility regulatory and permit requirements, facility capabilities, profitability, and safety to employees and the environment. Must keep current with regulations and individual facility permit requirements. Must have full understanding of the quotation, waste stream, billing, and online systems. Resource and problem solving for all of Heritage for specific HES facilities.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Ensures Health & Safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes, and acting in a safe manner at all times.
  • Support internal positions to build and maintain relationships with customers.
  • Help onboard new Approval Chemists
  • Technical resource for company.
  • Maintain IC pricing.
  • Manage conditional approvals.
  • High hazard review calls with generators.
  • Assign PPE.
  • Enforce materials are managed within limits of permits, operations, business rules.
  • Review profiles for compliance with WAP and acceptability into internal facilities.
  • Coordinate with plant operations.
  • Coordinate with plant and corporate safety and compliance.
  • Special projects as assigned.
  • Understand when to elevate issues.
  • Enter issues into Intelex.
  • Participates in monthly safety training topics.
  • Meet company safety observation goals.
  • May be assigned as a mentor to Approvals Chemists I & II
  • Approval to sign off on profiles into multiple TSD's
  • Develop SOP, Process map, etc. and conduct training sessions.
  • May participate in a Focus Team/Lean Six Sigma Project
  • Ability to fill in for Senior Approval Manager as needed
  • Update profiles via the master tool in MMS
  • Follow up on difficult approvals and see them to completion.
  • Resolve max weight and quote issues
  • Considered a Subject Matter Expert for Approvals
  • Provide feedback on employee evals, mentoring and coaching sessions
  • Oversee and assign projects, compliance holds, conditional approvals, queue monitors, etc.
  • Attend additional training as set by manager
  • Evaluation Score - Minimum score of 3.0 on previous evaluation.
  • All requirements above must be completed in current role.

Education/Experience: 4 Year Degree is required, with a minimum of 8+ years of Heritage Experience from an Approvals Chemist II Role. 8 years can include time in other technical Heritage positions. A score of 3 or greater on previous evaluations (minimum of 2 evaluation periods) required.

Knowledge and Abilities: This is a safety sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function. Must have a basic understanding of hazardous waste regulations, a basic understanding of DOT hazardous materials regulations, and/or a strong understanding of Heritage operational capabilities. Must possess basic computer skills in Windows and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook). Experience in MMS preferred. Strong working knowledge of Chemistry. Must have strong interpersonal, organizational, and communications (verbal and written) skills. Must have strong decision-making skills. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this job.
