Laboratory Superintendent

Primary Purpose: The Laboratory Superindendant is responsible for management and coordination of the activities of the assigned lab shift in the analysis of materials to provide analytical services for operations. A leader that is proficient in ICP operation, GC interpretation and/or PCB quantification. Possesses advanced laboratory knowledge, teaches, and performs multiple laboratory tests, to provide reliable analytical services to operations and our customers, in a timely manner.

Essential Functions and Requirements:

  • Ensures Health & Safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes, and acting in a safe manner at all times.
  • Informed and practiced with regards to Rineco's safety procedures, waste analysis and quality assurance plans. Responsible for daily assessments and any corrective actions, plus training other technicians.
  • Analyze materials to determine characteristics and waste profile. Proficiently perform all duties for all laboratory position under his/her direction.
  • Ensure that data meets quality and productivity requirements.
  • Responsible for performing the interpretation of the analytical results on inbound and processed materials.
  • Provides leadership to ensure laboratory and company objectives are achieved.
  • Plans, schedules, and coordinates the workflow of the assigned lab shift.
  • Maintain accurate records for entire shift as well as preparing reports using accurate data.
  • Make decisions regarding the disposition, holding and release of material analyzed.
  • Coordination of training/development to provide continuous learning/advancement of the lab personnel.
  • Report daily to the Lab Manager on personnel, equipment, production, and quality issues.
  • Responsible for the overall performance of the lab shift, including but not limited to production quotas, budget requirements, continuous coverage of all positions, overall stability, teamwork with internal clients, quality issues including audits, and laboratory appearance including client and internal tours.
  • Ongoing evaluation along with organized and detailed recommendations on procedures, equipment modifications, and quality functions in general.
  • Responsible for making recommendations regarding personnel changes including promotions and terminations.
  • Communicate with production, profile, and sales personnel, as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or required (as needed).
  • Requires a hands-on approach, with regards to testing, training, and equipment maintenance (as needed).
  • Flexibility and willingness to assist any laboratory shift (as needed).

Education: High School Diploma or its Equivalent required. Some college coursework required. Associates degree or Bachelor's degree in Science preferred.

Experience: Minimum 3 years' laboratory experience required. Hazardous waste, environmental, or related field preferred. Working knowledge of one or more areas of analytical chemistry (preferably GC-ECD and/or ICP-OES required. Knowledge of instrument troubleshooting, and maintenance with regards to analyses performed by the lab required.

Knowledge and Abilities: Excellent communication skills. Ability to communicate in a timely manner the specifics of questionable or hazardous material to the proper authorities, and respond to incidents promptly, as well as train and inform others who may be exposed as well as convey to lab management. Requires a level of chemical knowledge that includes the characteristics, reactions, and hazards of substances encountered in the hazardous waste industry. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Explorer Internet software required. Working knowledge of LIMS. Good time management and muti-tasking skills. Requires a detailed understanding of regulatory requirements and a general familiarity of industry trends. Requires working knowledge of instrument troubleshooting, and maintenance with regards all analyses performed by the lab. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this job.
