Lab Technician- BP

Primary Purpose

Complete all laboratory sample analysis per approved methods and standard operating procedures. Operates instrumentation effectively and independently. Calculates, runs, prepares, and reports analytical data. Works with Project Manager and Operations Team to ensure proper testing and communication of results. Monitors chemical, lab, and safety/PPE supply inventory. Completes safety instrumentation calibrations and bump tests used in the operations unit.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Ensures Health & Safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes, and acting in a safe manner at all times.
• Monitor and test process formulations and materials daily to ensure process meets or exceeds requirements of the customer.
• Prepare, record, and complete data entry with accurate Information and forward to personnel in a timely manner.
• Follow quality control plans or guidelines as assigned.
• Evaluate data for deviations or trends away from accepted standards.
• Interact with process team and customer.
• Sample appropriate materials, test the materials, and keep record for review by project manager and customer.
• Conduct monthly inventory on all lab supplies, chemicals, lab PPE, and operations PPE.
• Communicate with plant leadership and customer on any product quality issues, trends or observations that impact quality, operations, and customers.
• Troubleshoots and performs maintenance on all lab instrumentation.
• Maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment & operations gas monitors.
• Maintains proper logs based on company policies and procedures.
• Coordinates the retention and disposal of lab samples and lab waste per company policy.
• Completes data entry, such as process logs, work order notifications, or general tracking spreadsheets.

Education: Bachelor's in chemistry or biology preferred. Lab experience, operations with quality testing, or associates degree with relevant experience considered. High school diploma required.

Knowledge and Abilities: This is a safety sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function. Good mathematical and computer skills required, including Excel. Ability to utilize all necessary laboratory equipment. Must be physically able to operate lab equipment. Willingness to get involved with the operations process or business process is desired. Ability to lift 50lbs. Sound problem solver who can quickly process complex Information and present it clearly and simply. Knowledgeable in API standards, EPA and ASTM methods considered a plus. Hazwoper certification a plus. Due to potential exposure to atmospheres/waste/materials this position requires that you must be able to be clean shaven at all times to don a respirator for your protection. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this job.
