Primary Purpose

Lean Six Sigma Black Belt is a professional who possess a thorough understanding of all aspects of DMAIC, DFSS & Lean Methodologies such that he/she can successfully lead multiple, complex improvement projects which will deliver significant financial and customer benefits to the organization. This role will deliver agreed upon goals that result in significant benefits to the business through the leadership of improvement activities and processes, that will be sponsored by the business leadership team.

This new role to Heritage Environmental Services will be part of a broader Black Belt team across The Heritage Group of companies that will undergo 4 weeks of training to prepare (2+2 GB/BB or similar model) and typically work under the guidance of a Master Black Belt through The Heritage Group

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Ensures Health & Safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes, and acting in a safe manner at all times.

On a full-time basis, lead and manage six sigma improvement projects as assigned by business leadership through high value applications of the LSS methodology and DMAIC toolset to solve business problems and achieve project objectives

Coach and mentor Yellowbelt and Greenbelts in the practical application of Lean Six Sigma tools through their start to full completion of their projects with a cultural adoption into their respective business.

Troubleshoots with team members to resolve obstacles/roadblocks, serve as a sounding board for problem resolution and ensures smooth, continuous progress on projects.

Coach business improvement project team members on the improvement process and corresponding quality tools.

Support and lead cross-functional teams to identify projects, deliver business and customer requirements focused solutions

Provide support to leadership on improvement project progress, barriers, and issues

Applies advanced decision making, assessment techniques and statistical methods to business issues and opportunities

Participate in potential project selection and analysis and may advise business unit staff on prioritization

Act independently and without appreciable direction to provide expert hands-on implementation of the LSS methodology

Network with other BBs and MBBs for cross-organization support and development of the Heritage LSS program through coaching and communication of the LSS methodology

Provide support as necessary to MBBs

Use the time as a BB for personal development and to demonstrate personal capability to accept risks and thrive in ambiguity in preparation for potential leadership positions

Attended 10-day LSS training (role based or team based)

Travel as needed, approximately 10%, overnight may be needed

Education: High school diploma or its equivalent required.

High school Diploma or its equivalent required. Four Year Degree is preferred.

Experience: Minimum of 4 years relevant professional experience. Environmental field including waste & recycling, sustainability, energy, and water reduction preferred. Black Belt Certification required. Experience in DMAIC process (LSS) required. Experience delivering LSS training preferred.

Knowledge and Abilities: Coaching and mentoring. Facilitation skills (in person meetings and Teams/Zoom). Ability to build relationships at multiple levels and across organizations. Excellent presentation skills. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Strategic thinker. Project management. Conflict Management. Customer driven. Driven for results. Excellent interpersonal skills. Dealing with ambiguity.

Key Technical/Professional Competencies: Ability to deal with complex processes and statistical data. Knowledge of the key tools of the LSS methodology. Optimization. Inferential Statistics. Technical knowledge in the respective application area.
