EHS Manager - HT

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Ensures Health & Safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes, and acting in a safe manner at all times.
  • Audits and inspects various work sites to ensure compliance with environmental, health and safety requirements and governmental regulations; recommends and monitors corrective actions.
  • Provides technical assistance to company managers in controlling losses from injuries, liabilities and property losses; develops policies and procedures to ensure compliance with new standards and safety practices.
  • Develops and conducts health, safety, and driver training programs. Leads scheduled safety meetings and formed committees.
  • Oversees the use and support of safety management software. Champions behavior based safety and leading indicator activity.
  • Performs incident investigations, monitors completion of action items, manages safety observations, and addresses any system-wide implications; ensures completion of necessary paperwork.
  • Represents the company with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other regulatory officials regarding permitting, violations, inspections as requested.
  • Coordinates the injury management protocol to meet company requirements.
  • Manages medical, worker's compensation and insurance programs to control costs; serves as liaison between insured and insurance carrier when appropriate.
  • Assists with obtaining quality safety equipment and executing required safety permits.
  • Reviews compiled information on safety performance for purposes of identifying any trends or patterns, for corrective or preventive measures.

Education: Four year college degree; safety / science major preferred.

Experience: Three to five years experience working in health and safety related programs. Experience to effectively train drivers in the areas of defensive driving and hazardous materials. Professional certification preferred. CDL driving experience a plus.

Knowledge and Abilities: This is a safety sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function. Thorough knowledge and understanding of all federal, state, and local laws and regulations pertaining to the transportation and environmental services industry. Strong organization and communication skills required. Travel required and must be available to respond to incidents as needed. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this job.
