Driver Trainer/Safety Coordinator

Primary Purpose

To plan, organize and direct a wide range of training activities for a wide range of employee's in Transportation. Conduct and supervise training and develop programs for employees to improve & maintain safety standards, improve employee's skills, and build morale

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Train and evaluate all prospective drivers.
  • Maintain all DOT folders and records on current drivers.
  • Work with Heritage Transport General Manager and Director of Compliance hiring new employees.
  • Coordinate and evaluate the behind-the-wheel driver training program.
  • Conduct driving performance evaluations on drivers and delegated behind-the-wheel trainers and drivers and maintain driving performance records.
  • Post accident behind-the-wheel re-training.
  • Maintain updated driver training manuals.
  • Network with local instructor groups to exchange information and best practices.
  • Design and implement safety meetings under the direction of Director of DOT Compliance.
  • Assist with obtaining quality safety equipment.
  • Assists with People Net, existing skills with a mobile communication system a plus.
  • Assist with accident investigations.
  • Receive and direct incoming telephone calls.
  • Attend pertinent workshops and training sessions.
  • Perform all other duties assigned by the HT General Manager and Director of DOT Compliance.
  • Training on highway equipment including Van Trailers, dump Trailers (Frameless & Frame), Roll off Equipment, Tankers (Vac & non Vac).

Education: High school Diploma or equivalent required.

Experience: Experience and knowledge in training drivers in the area of Hazardous materials. 5 years of CDL driving experience a plus.

Knowledge and Abilities: Ability to work on a variety of tasks simultaneously with frequent interruption. Ability to interact with staff and others in an open, friendly, business-like manner. Ability to follow regulations pertaining to the safe operation of a Commercial Motor Vehicle. Communication skills, telephone and radio dispatch, clerical skills, and map skills. Proven experience with Excel, Outlook, and other Microsoft Office Applications as well as Mobile communications systems such as People Net a plus. Class A CDL with tanker and Hazardous Material endorsement. Working knowledge of 49 CFR/OSHA regulations. Working as a team. Up to 75% travel required. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this job.
