Primary Purpose

Reporting to the Chief Accounting Officer, the Director of Accounting for Heritage works to provide accurate and timely financial information to company management while providing proper fiduciary control over the company's financial resources. This person should have an extensive background working in a matrix organization across multiple business units and functions including sales, operations, supply chain, marketing, IT, and accounting. This role is highly visible and will require an individual who can not only lead the charge, but to also complete the work, drive initiatives, and mentor and develop staff.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Ensures Health & Safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes, and acting in a safe manner at all times.
  • Providing company and location leaders with accurate and timely monthly financial statements prepared in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. These statements are underpinned by the development, review, and implementation of all accounting internal control systems along with implementing necessary changes to support any statement of financial accounting standards which are applicable.
  • Lead the preparation for and facilitate the annual audit of the financial statements by the company's external auditors.
  • Participate in the leadership of various operational based accounting functions that the Accounting Team currently supports, such as (Credit and Collections, Billing, Cash Application, Accounts Payable, Capital Acquisition) as well as supports the ongoing development and utilization of financial planning and reporting tools (Oracle EPM, MS Power BI) across the organization to improve operational and financial transparency.
  • Serve as the Accounting Lead for all Operational Excellence / LEAN Six-Sigma initiatives and projects, partnering with HES' head of Business Excellence and Master Black Belt.
  • Work closely with location/functional leaders and the Director of FP&A to understand and communicate differences between actual and budget performance. Proactively help to identify and drive actions to improve business performance.
  • Collaborating with business leaders, take ownership in the development and reporting of key metrics (KPIs). Incorporate these metrics into daily/weekly/monthly reports, dashboards, and business review meetings. Provide clarity by connecting operational metrics to financial performance to improve decision making and drive better business outcomes.
  • Assist in the development of management presentations, including monthly financial reviews, dashboard reviews, Advisory Board and Heritage Group Board decks.
  • Provide financial/business support and expertise as needed for various M&A related activities, including financial modeling and sensitivity analysis.
  • Most importantly, this role will serve as a mentor to employees within the department supporting their freedom to learn and grow.
  • Travel up to 20%

Education: Four Year Degree in Finance or Accounting required. MBA preferred.

Experience: 10+ years of industry related experienced and continued professional development required. Minimum 5 years management experience required. Strong accounting knowledge required. CPA/CMA preferred.

Knowledge and Abilities: This is a highly visible role where showing up and leading by example is necessary drive change and better business outcomes. Demonstrated analytical skills and techniques, visible display of intellectual curiosity, and proven record of making a positive difference in the outcome of projects. Keen ability and affinity for influencing, building trust and credibility, and collaborating with cross-functional teams and leaders. Strong business acumen and an understanding of value to assist in analyzing business information to provide insights. Polished and effective communication skills, keenly skilled in questioning, challenging, and inquiring with tact and diplomacy. Successful track record in project management, leading cross-functional project teams, communicating the purpose, objectives, timeline, deliverables, results, etc. Highly skilled in all advanced functionality in MS Excel is required; deep understanding of data architecture and experience with advanced planning & analytical tools (e.g., Oracle EPM, MS Power BI) is a major plus. Experience with Oracle PeopleSoft Financials is a plus. Ability to envision, create, process, and deliver data-driven analyses via savvy presentation skills. Ability to thrive in a hands-on, opportunistic, problem solving culture. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary to document and effectively translate financial information to operations and commercial colleagues.
