Corporate Compliance Program Specialist

Primary Purpose

Serves as corporate resource regarding Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) matters including advanced problem solving. Supports the development of strategies, programs, and systems in response to regulatory changes, need for compliance with existing regulations, or continuous improvement in the Environmental Health & Safety disciplines. Provides compliance information, compliance management, and regulatory interpretation to service centers and management. Determines impact of EHS regulations and permits on company activities.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Ensures Health & Safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes, and acting in a safe manner at all times.
  • Secure and maintain environmental and DOT programs, permits; perform & monitor environmental and DOT audits; participate in report compilation, analysis of data, and/or understand and apply regulatory information.
  • Assess the impact of proposed and final industry related regulations on activities of the various Heritage business units, including field activities and treatment facilities at customer locations. Determine impact, provide guidance, and monitor performance regarding permit conditions, company policies, and corporate objectives on company operations.
  • Work with line management and colleagues to develop environmental and DOT compliance strategies, programs, and systems in response to regulatory developments including enforcement.
  • Assist Heritage personnel with evaluation of regulatory compliance and technical issues; helps establish technical standards and provides training or coordinates corporate training initiatives.
  • May assist with identification of business opportunities associated with changing environmental and DOT regulations; make recommendations for necessary action requiring Heritage services; assists with determining environmental and DOT regulatory framework of new business ventures and assist sales with technical evaluation of complex business opportunities.
  • Keeps apprised of regulatory developments at the state and federal level ; maintain manageable relationships with state and federal regulatory agencies for compliance inspection and permit writing personnel as appropriate. Assists colleagues with regulatory and compliance matters.
  • May work with customers to provide guidance and direction relative to environmental and DOT issues as needed including fee based consulting services to significant customers.
  • Coordinate efforts with internal and outside consultants while working within Heritage policy framework and objectives.
  • May manage or support corporate-wide quality initiatives.
  • May focus on specific areas within environmental and DOT disciplines and serve as a resource to fellow employees.

Education: Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Environmental, Chemical, or Civil), Chemistry, Environmental Science or related field of study required. In Lieu of degree minimum 8 years' experience in environmental regulatory compliance required. Experience with treatment, storage and disposal facilities preferred.

Knowledge and Abilities: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Understanding of manufacturing and industrial waste treatment processes. Knowledge of various federal, state and local industry-related regulations. Professional certification preferred or on track to achieve professional certification. Demonstrated business/technical writing skills. Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate with internal and external parties. Travel will be required to meet company objectives. Ability to wear personal protective equipment. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this job.
