COMPLIANCE MANAGER


Primary Purpose

Maintain compliance with Hazardous Materials at specified customers in the United States. To assist customer with activities relating to environmental, safety, and compliance matters.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities


  • Ensures Health & Safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes and acting in a safe manner at all times.
  • Ensure compliance with all Federal, State, and Location regulations.
  • Management of Hazardous Waste disposal for customer
  • Management of Hazardous Material storage, and shipping regulations at a corporate level
  • Management of all inspections, ensuring all initial inspection violations are cleared promptly
  • Communicate cross-functionally between internal Tech Service Centers and customer's Corporate as well as different business units
  • Communicate with site contacts for customers every location, explaining regulatory issues
  • Develop and track compliance issues
  • Develop best in class training programs for Hazardous Material Shipping and Hazardous Waste Management
  • Maintain programs with daily communication for every customer site, responding to any issues, inspections, or questions
  • Record any environmental reporting documents, submit as required, for the states and countries customer operates
  • Develop and maintain dashboards to communicate the status of programs
  • Develop and Communicate via PowerPoint to customer the status of programs during Monthly Business Reviews (MBRs)
  • Identify regulatory concerns within the environmental programs at customer
  • Stay abreast of changing regulations in the field of Hazardous Material Management across local jurisdictions and state and federal laws in which Nordstrom does business
  • Communicate with regulators on customers behalf
  • Support sales team in the maintenance of the customers Hazardous Waste disposal contract
  • Attend biweekly meetings with internal Tech Service Managers and communicate best service practices
  • Maintain website on the customers internal service for the Hazardous Waste Program (averaging 40 page views per month)
  • Maintain website on the customer internal service for the Hazardous Material Shipping Program (averaging 500 page views per month)
  • Maintain website on the customer internal service for the Canada Dangerous Goods Shipping Program (averaging 40 page views per month)
  • Maintain document repository for all customer Inspections, Manifest, Program Documents, etc.
  • Ensure appropriate sampling and analysis are performed in accordance with permit and company requirements. Maintain all permit-required records in a format and location suitable for external review
  • Prepare periodic reports to appropriate regulatory agencies (e.g., biennial reports, Tier II, periodic hazardous waste reports, etc.). Maintain documentation in a format and location suitable for external review
  • Assist in effective responses to emergencies, including timely notification of reportable incidents, response actions, removal of residues, and documentation efforts
  • Conduct periodic evaluations and inspections (formal and informal) concerning safety, health, environment, and compliance, making recommendations for improvements
  • Interact with facility and corporate management on regulatory initiatives and issues of concern in a problem-solving manner.
  • Represent the company as part of regulatory inquiries, regulatory inspections, and customer audits.
  • Develop and/or revise standard operational and working procedures.

Education: Four-year college degree required; science, engineering, or safety preferred.

Experience: Minimum of 3 years in the Hazardous Waste industry required. Extensive Knowledge of 40 and 49 CFR desired.

Knowledge and Abilities:

A detailed-oriented person with good organizational skills. Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form with a strong customer service orientation for internal and external customers. Excellent communication skills. Ability to work independently. In-depth knowledge of the customer's practices for handling hazardous materials. Ability to adapt to change in a fast-growing environment. Ability to define problems, collects data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to be proactive and take ownership of job duties and meet deadlines. Strong understanding of all transportation regulations relating to the movement of hazardous materials (RCRA Training, DOT Training, and IATA DG Training). Intermediate Computer Skills, including Microsoft Word & Excel, are required. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this job.
