Chemical Treatment Operator

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Ensures Health & Safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes, and acting in a safe manner at all times.
  • Adds proper mixture of treatment chemicals to incoming waste materials in order to change the compositions to disposable products in accordance with Company rules and regulations.
  • Performs job in a safe manner, following all safety procedures.
  • Moves treated products to press area for further treatment and disposal following company guidelines.
  • Monitors temperature and pressure on cyanide destruction unit demand vessels.
  • Discharges secondary tanks when approved.
  • Monitors and tests waste materials to ensure the proper combination of chemicals are added and allowing for proper disposal.
  • Unloads tank trucks of hazardous waste to the treatment train while monitoring for effective wastewater treatment process parameters.
  • Position handles hazardous materials and will often require use of PPE: Boots, Gloves, Suits, Eye/Ear Protection and Respirator
  • Basic Chemical Knowledge (pH, Acid, Base, Oxidizer)
  • Operate fork lift or similar machinery
  • Understand and follow related state and federal rules for waste management
  • Responsible for keeping operating areas, walls, pipes and floor in a clean and safe condition.
  • Maintain Operating Logs

Education/Certification: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Indiana Industrial Wastewater License Class A/ Apprentice A or above preferred.

Experience: If External: 2-3 years of waste water treatment or chemical processing experience preferred. If Internal, One year of Heritage experience preferred.

Knowledge and Abilities: This is a safety sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function. Knowledge of OSHA plant safety regulations. Ability to understand RCRA compliance standards. Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment, including respirator. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this job.

A post offer drug screen will be required.
