Billing Specialist I

Primary Purpose:

The Billing Specialist I is responsible for accurate and efficient processing of transactions and invoicing for transportation and waste shipments. Interact with internal customers to ensure invoice accuracy and timeliness.

Essential Functions and Requirements:

  • Ensures Health & Safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes, and acting in a safe manner at all times.
  • Calculates transactions based on inventory or other data provided.
  • Performs manifest review and enters manifests into MMS system.
  • Informs appropriate personnel of missing or incorrect data.
  • Reviews proforma invoices in conjunction with staff at service location, finalizes proformas, issues credit and debit invoices.
  • 3rd party invoice receipt, distribution to locations and processing.
  • Cross-train with Billing Specialist I and Billing Manager.
  • Billing to include Transaction Calculation, Pricing Review and Invoice Approval.
  • Communication regarding invoice and pricing issues to appropriate people.
  • Ensures that invoice pricing and billing is done completely, accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for updating or creating SOP's for duties.
  • Accuracy critical to revenue/cost alignment in system.
  • Proper understanding of cost allocations.
  • Assist in review of margins.
  • Completes customer requests for weights, manifest copies, and questions regarding invoices.
  • May distribute signed documents and/or manifest copies to customers and/or generators.
  • Files, makes copies, operates calculator, fax, flowport, or other office equipment and answers telephone as required.
  • Special projects as needed.

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Four-year degree preferred.

Experience: Minimum of two years' experience in customer service, accounts payable or billing required.

Knowledge and Abilities: Detail oriented and possess accurate data entry skills. Ability to solve problems and provide solutions with limited direction. Must possess strong computer skills in Word, Excel, and Outlook. Must have strong interpersonal, organizational, and communications skill. Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical, background check, and drug screen.
