Assistant Transportation Manager I

Primary Purpose

Assist with logistics planning and production support to rolling fleet and assist General Manager with day to day operations.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Ensures Health & Safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes, and acting in a safe manner at all times.
  • Assist with logistics planning and production support to rolling fleet.
  • Assist with fleet maintenance scheduling maintenance for all equipment.
  • Investigate incidents to ensure prompt resolution and training opportunities.
  • Log and maintain driver records to DOT and company policies.
  • Conduct D.O.T. and safety training, as needed.
  • Take calls after hours to monitor repairs on the equipment.
  • Be a point of contact for Truck Drivers to ensure proper compliance.
  • On an as needed basis, fill in as Truck Driver.
  • Assist Manager with management of all daily functions of trucking company; assist in the supervision of scheduling of trucks inbound and outbound; coordination of Emergency Services activity related to all transportation issues.
  • Maintain accurate daily equipment list so that all equipment is accounted for.
  • Maintain daily Yard check.
  • Manage driver log summaries and driver mileage bonus.

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Experience: Experience and/or knowledge of DOT /EPA regulations is a required. Knowledge of dispatching and scheduling trucks is preferred. Mechanical background including diesel engines and transmissions, trailer repair (lights, brakes, tires, etc.) and A/C repair is preferred.

Knowledge and Abilities: Excellent communication, organization, and follow-through skills. Must be able to work with other departments, including sales, production, and the laboratory. Must be able to trouble-shoot problems quickly. Lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.
