Area Manager

Provide on-site operations of equipment and management of shipping document processes to multifaceted logistics strategies for transportation to destination facilities via rail, truck, and barge in a safe and conscientious manner providing value and customer satisfaction to internal and external customers.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Ensures Health & Safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes, and acting in a safe manner at all times.
  • Prepares for daily shift by inspecting assigned vehicles(s) and equipment to ensure all is in excellent and safe operating order.
  • Works at customer, 3rd party sites, and railroad locations to load and transload hazardous and non-hazardous waste materials and commodities.
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently manage on-site rail and truck logistics, including instructing drivers to ensure safety and productivity.
  • Responsible for maintaining and repairing equipment, including performing services and tracking scheduled service intervals.
  • Prepare and package materials for shipment. Understands, completes, submits and able to track railroad waybills, as well as DOT, EPA, and company shipping documents for every load managed.
  • Lines and secures transportation vessels, such as intermodal containers, and ensures making and placarding of every load is compliantly managed.
  • Works alongside as well as supervises yard and labor operations of subcontracted employees.
  • Responsible for project productivity and adherence to timeframe and to ensure proper safety procedures are being followed at projects and rail yards.
  • Assists in the training of current and/or new employees and subcontractors.
  • Ability to proficiently operate hand and power tools. Fills in for any crew position as needed.
  • Travel up to 50% of the time is required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education: High school diploma or its equivalent required.

Experience: Minimum 2 years' experience operating heavy duty equipment/machinery is required. Types of equipment including but not limited to intermodal container top picks, >50,000 lb. heavy duty fork trucks, rail trackmobiles, and loading/offloading trucks, and operating an excavator preferred. Must be able to complete and pass 40-hour HAZWOPER Training. Valid driver's license required. Ability to pass Motor Vehicle Record search to Company Standards.

Knowledge and Abilities: Must be able to travel up to 50% of the time. Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate with internal and external contacts. Ability to understand and manage RCRA and DOT/FRA compliance standards, and OSHA safety regulations associated with truck, rail, and barge shipments. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this job.

A post offer drug screen will be required.  A post offer background check may be required.
